dried black currant the opening tease, builds anticipation -> met by darkened chocolate (verging on cocoa powder) & coffee -> morphs tea which intones mint -> yucca-infused butter -> blurry cocoa & multi-grain cereal (mainly corn / rice) -> bitter foggy bottom forest floor -> gentian root; more tea the after-math
Quality 15.7 / 20
Strangely mild for the origin & the percentage. Broad surface spread across palate but shallow depth, never really turning over, just churns thru cocoa-flavored butter (mostly) in danger of flattening out, suggesting a portion of the batch may have been Dutched.
Exemplifies wider affliction with Ecuador cacáo: severe hybridization. Most of the venerated Nacional tree stands have been gutted with clones (CCN-51; EET), leaving a remnant of faded glory tattered over in layers of murky grains & cocoas.
ING: cacáo, sugar, soya lecithin, vanilla
