Spain has yet to join in any earnest way the burgeoning craft chocolate movement which see barsmiths sprout, especially in North America & the rest of Europe, like invasive weeds. It probably thinks it has no need to prove itself since Spain was the first country to import cacáo / cocoa from its Americas homeland back in the early 1500s.

Then again, things happens / times change & now Spain lags behind.

On the face of it, these 3 bars from Banus represent the Nuño de Guzmán of chocolates; he the dreaded conquistadore & later colonial rogue equally despised by companions & competitors. His only social grace seemed a “refined hypocrisy”. Perhaps most demeaning among his many notorious acts: enslaving Amerinds & branding them in the face. Evil.

But beneath their hideous appearance lies the sweetness of child… hoping to make good someday.

Caribe
twee sweet for a rush of fruit blossom bottoms undergirded by the Aromatics -> add cinnamon to lengthen the progression & an intrinsic vanilla -> wraps it on jute

Leche
grousing milk powder -> bar searches to purchase a hold on caramel & about halfway thru settles for honey-Indian candy corn -> milk casein proteins return & then the bar goes on a serious sugar burn & out

Blanco
Starlac® milk powder with extra sugar added -> caustic copper streak -> honeyed egg whites
Quality   12.1 / 20
Caribe
Lote 0113
Surprising stamina for the percentage. Of course the sugar as expected extends the fruits from the opening lip but the rest that follows hangs in with heft far in excess of 62%. And true flavors to boot.
INGREDIENTS: cocoa mass, sugar, cocoa butter, lecithin; Barithmetic (Cocoa mass / Butter / Sugar ratio): ~5:7:7

Leche
36% cacáo-content; Lote 0113
Strange formulation: more milk powder than cocoa mass, more cocoa butter than milk powder & more sugar that all of that. Inartful.
INGREDIENTS: sugar, cocoa butter, milk powder, cocoa mass, lecithin

Blanco
30% cacáo-content; Lote 0213
Woes plaguing the Leche (above) amplified then expanded in this White.
INGREDIENTS: sugar, cocoa butter, milk powder, lecithin
