Impact
Appearance 4.1 / 5
Color: | opaque brown |
Surface: | clean front; backside pocked like rice crispies w/ nibs |
Temper: | thin varnish |
Snap: | snub (nibs + 60% steal any sharpness) |
Aroma 7.8 / 10
short at the start but clean if a bit of a hibernating invertebrate w/ little chocolate backbone: butter & wax the back set to small but significant tobacco, coffee, & olive + tiny sparklers of guava, apricot, & mango; aerates smoke, grass, & banana
Mouthfeel 14 / 15
Texture: | soft-crunch nibs surrounded by round body weight w/ love handles to hold onto |
Melt: | tremendous expansion - 360 every direction; both big & wet, the bar portion supremely conched; leaves extremely clean, no astringency whatsoever |
Flavor 43.1 / 50
uncoils brown-sugar coffee -> brown fruits (incl chocolate, raisins, & dates) -> lightly caramelized nibs take effect, flattening fruits into baseline cocoa running the length -> cinnamon gum -> allspice -> recessive greens: olive, grass, tobacco + banana leaves -> dried banana & apricot
Quality 17.4 / 20
Heavily creolized & overly sugared (almost can't contain it - just busting at the seams tighter than Pam Anderson's halter - but Cluizel, ever the grand balancer, comes correct) & nibs dim - without extinguishing - a good number of highlights seen in the flavor-fireworks of Los Ancones that fall here under a sweetly paved chocolate (the spine snaking its way along the forest flora - & just the opposite of its aroma) macadamized by those nibs which, on the upside, add great length + textural contrast.
